The Club Receives an Update on BACN

Kay Bond, the Executive Director of BACN (Benzie Area Christian Neighbors) described the myriad services this charitable organziation provides from its new facility in Benzonia.
Founded 28 years ago by 22 Benzie County churches, BACN now has 3 and 1/2 salaried employees and 145 volunteers working out of its spacious new quarters. The need for the services offered by BACN in our area continues to grow. During the first quarter of 2011 the number of "neighbors" served by BACN was almost 50% more than the number for the same quarter last year. With help from groups like our Club and Rotary Charities the organization helps local residents with their basic needs like food and heating. The "Way Out Women" program helps women under the poverty line. BACN has an educational program on site to assist those seekng GED certification. A computer lab is on the premises with on-line tutoring and WI-FI service available.
