Over the Memorial Day weekend members of the Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club played host to four visitors from Germany as part of Group Study Exchange, a cultural and vocational exchange program sponsored by Rotary International.

Teams of professionals between the ages of 25 and 40, along with a Rotarian team leader, are selected to represent their home Rotary District. For four weeks team members experience the home country’s culture and institutions, develop personal and professional relationships and exchange ideas.

Visiting from Germany were Bettina Dombrowski (PR officer), Lars Reiher (sales and marketing manager), Peter Straubel (designer) and Gisbert Huhtz (attorney and team leader). They were hosted by Rotarians at several clubs in Michigan and Ontario that are part of Rotary District 6290.

Locally the guests were hosted by Bob and Ginny Istnick, Roger and Heather Perry, Dick and Jan Robb, and Peter and Karen Van Nort. Included on the visitors’ itinerary were stops at the Cherry Republic, Pierce Stocking Drive, the Benzie Sportsman Club and Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa. The local visit concluded with a potluck dinner at the Perrys’ home overlooking Crystal Lake. By the time our visitors were escorted to Manistee they had seen a good deal of what our area has to offer.
