We pay a visit to BACN

Director of Development David Abeel told us what is happening at BACN.
One of the local charities that Benzie Sunrise Rotary has consistently supported is Benzie Area Christian Neighbors, now better known by its acronym, BACN. At our meeting we were treated to breakfast and a tour of the 10,000 square foot BACN facility across the street from the tiny (less than 1,000 square feet) cottage from which BACN's operations were formerly conducted.
Approaching thirty years in community service, BACN now serves 1,500 families a year. Its annual budget has grown from $30,000 to $370,000. This past year BACN spent $116,000 helping 450 families avoid utility shut-offs. The organization now has 3.5 employees, one of whom is David pursuant to a 3-year grant from Rotary Charities.
David thanked us for our past support, including the funds we donated for BACN's GED program. He left us all with a desire to continue helping a great community asset.
