Chuck Kraus is a retired urologist and local historian who is the author of Thompsonville in Time and President of the Thompsonville Area Revitalization Project (TARP).
The Thompsonville Area Revitalization Project began in late 2020 as an outgrowth of efforts to relocate the 1900-era Ann Arbor railroad depot. The goal was to create an attractive and historically compelling trailhead on the Betsie Valley Bike Trail near the site of the historic Thompsonville Junction.
With his PowerPoint presentation Chuck provided a history of Thompsonville from its boom days reliant on the lumber industry and the railroads to the bust days of failed businesses and burnt out buildings. TARP has received grants from many generous donors, including Benzie Sunrise Rotary Foundation. Part of Chuck's presentation can be viewed on the Club's private YouTube channel by clicking here.
