A native of Columbus, Ohio, Mary was drawn to Michigan to attend Hope College.
Following her graduation from Hope, Mary worked in a variety of capacities in the television industry. She was introduced to this part of the state by Ben Wolfe, her husband, whose family had been coming up to this area for many years. Mary now owns and operates the Live for Art Gallery in Beulah and engages in several community activities.
