Sherri Fenton provided an update on the non-profit whose mission is to provide health care for people in need.
Development and Marketing Director for the Clinic for the past four years, Sherri talked mostly of the changes underway at the Clinic by reason of health care reform. Beginning in 2014 low income, currently uninsured persons will be able to receive health care coverage through expanded Medicaid programs and subsidized health plans offered on state exchanges.  But in the meantime revenue sources are being eliminated, causing the Clinic to reduce costs and search for new sources of revenue. The Clinic will need to raise about $2.1 million over the next 3 years to continue providing services while making the transition to a Community Health Center.

Through its Coalition Health Access Program ("CHAP") the Clinic served 184 Benzie County residents in 2011, mostly at facilities within the County. In 2011 Dental care was provided to more than 50 Benzie County residents, and the Clinic partnered with BACN.

In all the Clinic served some 500 individuals a month in 2011.  Included among the services provided were medication access, dental care, outreach programs, a vision program, mental health services and outpatient services.  For every dollar received, the Clinic is able to provide $13 worth of services.  This is possible largely through the generous contribution of services and money from the medical community and from members of the community at large.
