Today we learned how Kim Simon found his way to Benzie County and Sunrise Rotary.

Kim was raised in Kirkwood, Missouri, where was involved in sports and became an Eagle Scout.  In 1967 his family moved to Michigan, and Kim played football and basketball at Stevenson High in Livonia. Despite being an MSU fan Kim went to Western Michigan University to play football--which he did for one year. He ended up working in the school cafeteria and basically paid his own way through college as a history major.

Following his graduation from Western, Kim taught history and coached football in Bloomfield Hills and New Haven.  He then decided to pursue a different career path and took a job at a regional office of All State Insurance.  In 1998 he was transferred to All State's Chicago facility from which he retired in 2014. He then served as a consultant in Milwaukee until 2017.  In the meantime Kim helped found the first Rotary Club in South Barrington, Illinois.

Kim became acquainted with Benzie County through his wife's parents, who for many years had a place on Platte Lake. In 1989 the Simons purchased property on Little Platte Lake and in 1993 they built the house where they now reside. They have one daughter who is an accomplished musician living in Houston.
