A former Red Cross volunteer, Kevin Bavers is Executive Director of the organization's Northwestern Michigan Chapter, one of 550 chapters in the nation.

Kevin explained that the Red Cross provides services in five core areas:
  • Blood
  • Disaster
  • Health and Safety
  • Armed Forces
  • International
Most of us are familiar with services provided by the Red Cross in reponse to disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, but services are also provided locally in the event of such things as home fires and power outages.  In the Health and Safety area the Red Cross provides training not only for CPR, but also for babysitting.  Aquatics is another area addressed by the Red Cross, and Kevin is looking for ways that the local chapter can do more to combat the rising number of drownings on local lakes.

The Red Cross is 100% locally funded.
