Kris Thomas, President of the Sunrise Rotary Foundation, conducted this year's annual membership meeting.
In addition to covering the normal agenda items, Kris reviewed the Foundation's history and purpose. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit that receives most of its money from Club fundraisers like Bike Benzie. It distributes funds in the form of grants filed and processed in accordance with the Foundation's policies available to the public on the Club website.
Some of the Foundation's money goes into an endowment fund that the Foundation set up several years ago with the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. Kris fielded several questions about the relationship between our Foundation and the Community Foundation. Kris urged members to include the Sunrise Rotary Foundation among their options in charitable giving.
