Becky Ewing began her work at Rotary Charities in 2008 as the Program Officer. She became the Associate Director in 2013, and on July 1 of this year she succeeded Marsha Smith as Executive Director. She has local ties to Benzie County, having recently acquired a place on Little Platte Lake.

Becky described the four types of grants available from Rotary Charities:

  • Assets for Thriving Communities (to support community assets; up to $150,000 available for up to 3 years, with a 50% match required).
  • Systems Change Accelerator (to support innovations that target root causes of complex problems; up to $150,000 for up to 3 years, with 10% match).
  • Changemaker Fellowships (to support breakthrough learning; up to $20,000 for 1 year with no match required).
  • Seed Grant (where a small investment of up to $10,000 over 1 year with a 25% match can produce a large impact).
Additional funds are available to local Rotary clubs like Sunrise Rotary in terms of dollar-for-dollar matching grants to clubs (up to $3,000 for community and international projects) and individual Rotarians (up to $250 for gifts to area non-profits).

Becky urged all of us to attend a retirement celebration for Marsha on September 7 at the Traverse City Opera House.
