Dennis Wiand gave us an update of Zero Gravity's use of drones to assist inland lakes.
Through a short video Dennis showed how he provides aerial guidance for the application of herbicides. From a boat below Dennis is able to guide the drone above, which pinpoints areas needing the application of product. This ensures adequate coverage while eliminating any excess application.
In addition to fighting invasives Zero Gravity's drones have been successfully used for shoreline surveys at Glen Lake and elsewhere. This involves a high fly-over followed by closeups showing shoreline detail . This permits the identification of possible issues for lake associations, such as unauthorized drains or areas of nutrient loading.
While conducting shoreline surveys Dennis has found local residents to be very supportive, creating goodwill for the lake association responsible for the project.
