Service Member Katie Zbrozek explained that FoodCorps is part of the AmeriCorps Service Network.

Noting that only 2% of kids eat recommended levels of fruits and vegetables, Katie works with five local elementary schools to teach students about fruits and vegetables. She gave Club members an opportunity to particpate in one of her classroom exercises--a taste test comparing local carrots with some imported from California. The purpose of the exercise is not so much to underscore the nutrients and sweet taste of local produce but to get kids thinking about carrots (and other vegetables) as good to eat.

FoodCorps also works with school cafeteria staffs and promotes school gardens. Locally FoodCorps partners with Grow Benzie.
