Milt Howard, lead developer for Duke Energy's Gail Windpower project, explained what the project is all about.

Following a video spoof of the NIMBY issue, Mr. Howard described Duke Energy and its current windpower project. Based in North Carolina, Duke is a Fortune 500 company and the nation's largest utility. The windpower project falls under the company's renewable resources division.  Since Michigan is 14th in the nation in wind energy, Duke Energy considers it an excellent place for the Gail project. Duke anticipates that in addition to producing affordable clean energy, over 25 years the project should generate revenues in excess of $50 million for landowners and $100 million for the region. According to Mr. Howard, Duke Energy is proceeding in consultation with the Michigan DNR and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and is obtaining all the required permits.

It was obvious from the large crowd and spirited questions that this is a issue of great concern to the Club and the community. Next week we will hear from opponents to the project.
