Wrapping up her time as a Rotary Exchange Student in Benzie County, Dhea Dhiafira gave us her concluding report.

A native of Indonesia, Dhea took advantage of about everything an exchange student in Benzie County could experience.  She lived with four different families:  in Benzonia, in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, in Frankfort and in Traverse City.  She went over the wish list that she had prepared and noted the places she had been, which included Detroit, Tennessee, Disneyworld and Washington, D.C.  She also went to Chicago with her Benzie Central classmates, as well as Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

Being a Muslim Dhea wanted to go to a mosque while in America, and with the aid of a Rotarian found one in Grand Rapids.  Her other interests include food (she bakes a lot) and sports (curling, skating soccer and her favorite--skiing).  Her outdoor activities included hiking, building a snowman and taking a hot air balloon ride.

Dhea also visited a number of schools, including NMC, CMU, MSU and U of M.  She is interested in the arts--particularly dance--and was on the Frankfort Dance Team, as well as being a cast member in "Bye, Bye Birdie." She attended the District Conference on Youth Exchange, as well as the Life Leadership Conference.

Dhea has one more year of high school awaiting her in Indonesia. She is publishing her own book this summer, which she urged us all to read.  We will miss her!
