At this week’s Lucky 13 Raffle drawing, a ticket was drawn with the name of Crystal Lake Elementary (CLE) on it.  4th/5th grade teacher, Dave Grimes, was one of the five staff whose name was selected to be able to draw a bill from the box.
Rotarian Phil Lambert, a retired middle school science teacher, purchases 20 tickets each year and puts the names of the five Benzie Central schools on them.   This is Phil’s way of giving back to teachers, knowing that often they spend their own money for classroom supplies or to help out a child with a need.

CLE Principal, Steve Graetz, decided to make the distribution of the $50 ticket a bit more fun.  He put the names of all of his staff into a box and five names were drawn.   We went to each of the person’s classroom, and they were able to draw a bill from the box.  The denominations were 2-5s, 2-10s, and one 20.  The staff who were able to draw from the box were Michaela MacGirr, Ashley Pappas, Nichole Lamkey, Kyle Ross, and Dave Grimes.

Previous weeks, $25 tickets were drawn for the high school, middle school, and Betsie Valley Elementary.  Rather than selecting one person to receive the cash, principals chose to have a Rotarian deliver bagel trays from L’Chayim Deli or a cookie tray from Ursa Major.
