Paul Gerhart was our second AmeriCorps speaker.
Paul said that AmeriCorps is a good option for young people who have not figured out what they want to do in life. After a year at a community college Paul was a 20-year-old unsure of what he wanted to study.
He signed up with AmeriCorps' NCC Division--much like the old Civilian Conservation Corps--on a team that was trained to fight wildfires. Among other things Paul learned how to safely operate a chain saw, a skill useful in his ultimate career path--education at Michigan Tech in forestry followed by the formation of a business removing small trees in urban areas.
