Julia Winter went from being an award-winning chemistry teacher at Detroit Country Day School to the founder and CEO of a start-up known as Alchemie Solutions.

With the aid of a grant from the National Science Foundation Julia raised $1.4 million to develop "mechanisms"-- light-weight web-based interactive media that will be available through annual licenses for $50-200K a year.

Alchemie's team of eight is based in Troy, MI.  Its focus is on higher education, although there will be spillover to secondary education.  The aim is to make intuitive learning both accessible and affordable for students everywhere.

Julia says that with most students owning and using smartphones and other touchscreen devices in learning, the need for technology harnessing the power of these mobile devices could not be greater--particularly in the time of the pandemic.
