The Recovery Court's Judge Describes Her Role on the Team

The Honorable Nancy Kida, Judge of the 85th District Court, described the history of the local Recovery Court.
The Benzie County Recovery Court is the local version of "drug courts" more common in urban areas of the state. The local court was funded by the state in 2008 as a pilot program. Judge Kida outlined the ten components of a drug court, noting that it is a voluntary non-adversarial program seeking to help participants recover from reliance on alcohol and other drugs. Judge Kida said that in her role as a member of the Recovery Court Team she is just that-- a member of the team rather than the ultimate decider.
