Jason Richards, owner of McDonalds restaurants in Benzonia and Manistee, gave a presentation of interest both to our members and to several students in attendance.

Even though McDonalds is a large corporation on the Dow Jones Index, Jason says that he is still just like any other local owner of a small business. A native of Royal Oak, Jason went to Duke and worked for General Motors before pursuing a McDonalds franchise.  His advice to the students in the room:  Go to college and then do what you want to do.

In his own case Jason was the comptroller at a GM plant when at a young age he took a buy-out to become a McDonalds applicant. This entailed 22 months of training, followed by his purchase of a franchise in western Nebraska (a franchise available for purchase, says Jason, due to its location). Eventually he sold that franchise and began looking for one in Michigan. He found a man who was looking to sell two of his several Michigan franchises, those in Benzonia and Manistee.  Jason was already familiar with the area, but when he learned of the proximity of Arcadia Bluffs, that sealed the deal for him.

Jason is proud to be associated with McDonalds and says it is a great place to get a job. He also derives special satisfaction from serving on the board of Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan.
