Maggie Kato returned via Zoom to give us a walking tour of the now completed Sleeping Bear Inn of Glen Haven in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Built in 1866, the Sleeping Bear Inn is the oldest inn in the National Park Service. In 2018 Maggie and husband Jeff formed non-profit BEAR to look into "adaptive re-use" of the Inn. In 2020 they retired from leadership positions at Genesee County Habitat for Humanity, and in 2022 they started on the renovation of the Inn which is now complete.
The rooms at the Inn are for rent, and the Inn is available for weddings and other special events. As stated in its website, we are urged to "Take in the view at Sleeping Bear Inn and immerse yourself in the beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan."
