Al Bonney, past President of the Traverse City noon Club,  told us about a World Community Service Project that gives the gift of mobility to polio survivors in Nigeria.
Wheels of Hope is a 501(c)(3) international leadership project of the Rotary Club of Traverse City in partnership with four Rotary Clubs in Jos, Nigeria. Wheelchairs are built from bicycle parts purchased in Nigeria by local workers at the Handicapped Advocacy and Rehabilitation Center in Jos, Nigeria, with oversight and financial control by local Rotarians. A donation of $150 purchases a wheelchair and provides the trasnsforming gift of mobility to polio survivors who otherwise would be relegated to a life of shame, exclusion and poverty. Matching funds are available for Rotary Clubs that wish to contribute.
