District Governor Lody Zwarensteyn spelled out his priorities and expectations for the Rotary year.
A past President of the Rotary Club of Grand Rapids, District 6290 Governor Lody described his background and talked about all that Rotary has to offer. He said that we should never invite people to join Rotary; instead we should describe our programs--taking pride in what we do and giving people the opportunity to participate. He then suggested priorities for our Club:
  • Have fun:  This where Rotary starts; the projects will fall into place.
  • Write a chapter about our Club for Lody's 61-chapter virtual book about the Clubs in District 6290.
  • Satisfy the criteria by which Leann will evaluate our Club--covering our purpose, service plan, RI Foundation contributions, leadership, administration, friendliness, etc.

Lody also told us about the recent RI Convention he attended in Bangkok, noting that Rotary offers something for everyone (even birdwatchers!).  He urged us to "peel the Rotary onion" to see all the layers Rotary has to offer.  He also encouraged us to support the Rotary Foundation (EREY), and alerted us that "Future Vision" will be coming--a new way of rolling out grants. Finally he suggested that we participate with other clubs in fundraisers.

After firing up the membership, Lody met with the Board to hear how the Club is addressing specific areas.  A worthwhile morning for all concerned!
