Scott described The First Tee's mission as teaching youth (ages 5-17) certain core values and healthy habits while they learn to play the game of golf.

As Crystal Mountain's Director of Golf Operations, Scott is responsible for implementing Crystal Mountain's participation in the First Tee of Northern Michigan program. The First Tee is a 501(c)(3) organization, and the Core Values it seeks to instill are honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. Scott has set up six-week spring and summer programs for instructing kids, with the spring session involving after-school classes. Each year members from First Tee chapters have the opportunity via essay submission to travel and participate in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

Scott is looking for help from the community in terms of both financial support and volunteers willing to coach. His goal is having 30 kids in the program this year. Recruiting is always a challenge, but Scott ran a program in the Benzie Schools this winter that should help, and referrals from Club members and others are more than welcome. There is a $40 membership fee for joining The First Tee and a $35 cost for each program.
