Marc Murphy, Executive Director of Northern Family Intervention Services, introduced today's topic with an exercise for all in attendance.

Marc asked us to write down areas we deemed important to us--work, family, community service, faith, etc.--on five separate cards.  We were then asked to prioritize the areas of interest, discarding one card at a time. For many of us family was the most precious of the five, and yet that is the first thing that children moving into a foster situation must give up.

The whole thrust of the Foster Care Initiative is to help foster kids stay in a relationship with their birth families.
