Executive Director Emilee Syrewicze explained FMH's mission and operations.
A non-profit formed in 1989 and based in Traverse City, the FMH provides affordable housing for the mentally ill in five counties (including Benzie County). There are an estimated 700 homeless in the five-county area, 200 of whom are mentally ill under FMH guidelines.  FMH is currently serving 81 of these (as heads of households).

FMH receives $450,000 a year in HUD money that is funneled through seven state and federal agencies.  It is seeking to supplement these funds by fundraising efforts, including a performance by the Cherry Capital Chorus at First Christian Church of Traverse City on August 5 and by You've Got To Have Heart at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Beulah on September 14.
