Skip Comer (far left) and Bev Toomey of Blessings in a Backpack of Benzie County receive a symbolic $1,000 check from Dick Conrad and Davis Sylvester of Sunrise Rotary.
The funds were part of the proceeds from the Club's recent 7th Annual Golf Tourney to Benefit Area Youth. The Benzie County Blessings in a Backpack group is affiliated with a national organization that negotiates with major food chains for the economical purchase of nutritional, child-pleasing foods for distribution to school children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Each week during the school year food is moved from the Traverse City Meijers store to the Platte River School, where it is packed by volunteers for delivery to various schools in the FEAS and Benzie Central school systems. The program covers all grades and last year served an average of 168 children per week.
